Mr Christopher David Townsend of Walton has passed away at Ashgate Hospice on December 13, 2025, aged 75.
Born in Walton and a lifelong local resident, Chris was deputy headteacher at Netherthorpe School, Staveley.
For over 45 years Chris was church secretary and preacher at The Gospel Mission Congregational Church, Brampton and led many services across Chesterfield.
He was a past president of the Christian Education Council of Chesterfield and was heavily involved with the organisation of the Whit Walks.
Chris was a member and past captain of Chesterfield Congs Cricket Club and enjoyed following County and Test cricket.
He directed many school plays and musicals, was a co-founder of the amateur theatre group Theatre '94 and was involved in numerous local amateur productions.
He loved visiting the theatre and especially the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford.
From being young Chris enjoyed frequent happy holidays in Scarborough with family and friends, often visiting the Scarborough Spa Orchestra.
Chris leaves his wife Vicky.
The funeral service takes place on Wednesday, January 7, The Gospel Mission Congregational Church, Brampton, at 2pm, followed by committal at Chesterfield Crematorium.
Any donations in lieu of flowers will be sent to Ashgate Hospice.
