Edward John Bartko of Wylam Close, Clay Cross, passed away on January 4, 2026, at Weston Park Hospital.
A lifelong Chesterfield resident, born on Marsden Street in Chesterfield, Edward was a former Chesterfield Boys pupil, he went on to study Microbiology at the then Oxford Polytechnic, before deciding upon a career with Derbyshire Constabulary.
He served for 30 years in varying roles from tutor constable, a trainer at Butterley Hall and a section sergeant. Ultimately retiring in 2015 as a custody sergeant.
He worked for a further 10 years for Derbyshire Constabulary as a Criminal Data Section Case Worker.
His hobbies included fine wine, good coffee, following Arsenal FC, science fiction TV shows, cooking, walking and family holidays and most of all spending time with his children.
Edward was predeceased by his father Balazs and brother Andrew. He leaves behind his children Harry and Isabella and their mother Donna, his mother, Teresa, step father Clive, brother Richard and step sisters Sarah and Louise.
A funeral service will take place on Tuesday, February 10, 10.00am, at The Annuciation Church. Spencer Street. Followed by a private service at Brimington Crematorium.
A celebration of Edward's life will follow at The Chesterfield Arms, Newbold Road.
