Jean Woolley Obituary

Mrs Jean Olive Rawstron Woolley, of Hasland, Chesterfield, has passed away at home, aged 85.
Born in Great Yarmouth and a resident of the Chesterfield area since 1971, Jean worked in nursing as an SRN and R SCN, training at Booth Hall, Manchester from 1951-54 and the old Addenbrook Hospital, Cambridge from 1955-57. In 1958 she went overseas with her husband who worked for the Civil Service with the East African High Commission. She nursed in Nairobi, Kenya, Tanganyika in Dar es Salaam and Tanga from 1958 to 1970. She worked on the gynaecological ward at the old Royal Hospital, Chesterfield from 1971 to 1974, followed by the Old Vicarage Care Home in Clay Cross until her retirement. She was the first Sister helping to commission the Aga Khan Diamond Jubilee Hospital in Nairobi from 1958 to 1961, opened by the Aga Khan. Her interests included knitting, cooking, reading, TV soaps, wildlife, travelling, her pet dog Simba and cats.
Jean leaves her husband Keith P. Woolley. The funeral service takes place on October 16, 2018, St Paul's Church, at 11am, followed by burial at Hasland Cemetery.
