Mrs Joan Pike has passed away at Chesterfield Royal Hospital on September 18, 2025, aged 97 years.
Born at Sycamore Farm, Calow, Joan was the youngest of seven children. During World War 2 she undertook the role of Land Girl, to help the war effort.
Also, during her early years, she helped to deliver milk to local households using horse and cart. This she did mostly with her father Arthur, until the round was eventually sold to the Co-Op in 1948.
Joan loved ballroom dancing with her husband Geoffrey at Calow Working Men's Club. She also loved keeping pets, knitting, gardening, walking and reading Mills and Boon books. She was a keen church go-er both as a child and later in life, helping to keep the church clean and tidy through weekly cleaning visits. Joan was predeceased by husband Geoffrey. She leaves sons Steven, Nigel and Andrew and daughter-in-law Donna.
The funeral service takes place at St Peter's Church, Calow on Tuesday, October 14, at 11am.
Donations in Joan's memory will go to Ashgate Hospice.
