John Blagg Obituary
Whitwell
Mr John Wilson Blagg of Whitwell, nr Worksop has passed away at home on January 6, 2026, aged 99, just six months short of his 100th birthday.
Born at Highwood Farm, Whitwell Common and a lifelong local resident, John was 13 at the outbreak of the Second World War and started his working life on his father's farm and also joined the Air Training Corp, he later became an agricultural contractor on many local farms.
His interests included traction engines and vintage machinery.
John was predeceased by his wife Shirley Anne Blagg (nee Harness).
The funeral service takes place on Thursday, February 12, 2026, St Lawrence Church, Whitwell, at 11.30am, followed by burial at Whitwell Council Cemetery.
Donations in lieu of flowers to Ashgate Hospice.

I enjoyed Mr Bagg's company on many occasions during his later years,as he often recalled memories from his working life on the farmland along with taking his steam engine to many rally events around the country ,forming a huge amount of friendships in the world of steam .He would often insist i joined him with a tot of his favourite tipple "Rum&Black" which he called his Medicine.Nothing seemed to faze Mr Blagg on his outlook of life & i was so sure he would make his big 100th that i had already got a Special steam engine card ,2years before for the occasion .Anyway 99years is a great innings !

My sincere condolences john used to visit my house every Sunday and chat with my mum Irene hines iam was sally hines Shirley was my headmistress at Boughton Lane school u remember him as a quiet and gentle man
