Mr Peter James Shelton of Newbold, Chesterfield, passed away on October 25, 2025, at Chesterfield Royal Hospital aged 99 years.
Born in Chesterfield, Peter was a lifelong local resident. His distinguished career in education began as a headteacher at a special education school before he became a lecturer in special education at Sheffield Hallam University.
Peter was also instrumental in helping to establish the Pathways homeless charity in Chesterfield. His diverse interests included a deep knowledge of stained glass windows, membership of the CPRE (Campaign to Protect Rural England), and a passion for photography, philosophy, art, and history. In his younger years, he was an enthusiastic canoeist and hiker.
Peter was predeceased by his wife, Kathleen. He leaves behind his sons, Roger and Christopher, and his daughter-in-law, Helen.
Funeral service to take place on Wednesday, November 26, at 12:15pm, Central Methodist Church, Chesterfield.
