It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alan
James Mearns, father to Gary and Alana and grandfather to Kerr.
He died peacefully, at home on September 12, 2025, aged 69.
Born and raised in Edinburgh, Alan moved to the Borders in his early forties before settling in York,
where he lived for the past 20 years.
A dedicated paramedic, for 23 years, he spent his life helping others.
Alan will be deeply missed by his family and by all those who knew him.
A funeral service will be held at York Crematorium, on Friday, October 10, at 1 pm. Donations, if desired, can be made to Diabetes UK, in Alan's memory.
