So sorry to hear of Paul's sudden death. A kind and thoughtful man who did a lot for other people. A champion for the well being of the environment and the earth long before most others. He was also a skilled photographer creative writer, and poet. His quiet Christian faith underpinned his simple life style and commitment to social justice. RIP Paul, you are Home now.

So sad to hear about Paul's passing.
Since we first met Paul around 25 years ago, we received the first Christmas card of the season from him every year. This, along with news of what he'd been up to throughout the year, arrived faithfully in early December. He seems have lived a full and happy life and we will so much miss hearing from him.
I will treasure the book of his wonderful photographs and poems he sent me one year.
Rest in peace beautiful soul.

Loved having Paul visit us for dinner. His wit and conversation were amazing. His wide range of knowledge on many topics were astounding. We will miss him so much.

Such a shock to have received this sad news from Warren and Benet today, but I am immensely grateful for your thoughtfulness. I first saw Paul by chance in 1979 in the Botanical Gardens, with merely a glance between us and no words spoken. 10 years later we found we were on the same boat trip to the outer Orkneys, photographing birds, when we again made eye contact and recognised each other without ever having spoken! That was the start of a long, and long distance, friendship as I returned to NZ to resume teaching. Over the 46 years, I was blessed with cards and letters, often containing photographs of the wonderfully wild places Paul visited and a yearly NZ calendar was sent in return. I have treasured the happy times when I visited Edinburgh every so often, and Paul would walk the legs off me! The late night discussions and philosophising will always be held dear. Such a lovely man. I'll miss you Paul. I hope you have found your peace at last. X
