Michael SYDDALL Obituary
SYDDALL Michael Arthur Passed away peacefully on 19 September 2025 at Newton House, Grantham, aged 92. Michael, second son of Arthur and Evelyn Syddall, grew up at Parkside, Belton Lane and later at Loxwood, Manthorpe Road, Grantham. He was educated at Little Gonerby School and the Kings School Grantham and did his National Service in the Royal Air Force, gaining his wings and flying Gloster Meteor jet aircraft. He was the beloved husband of Jean, whom he had known since they were 5 years old. Jean and Michael were devoted life-long companions, loving parents of Simon, Steven and Fiona, grandparents to Rebecca, Daniel, Catherine, Hannah, Joseph and Rupert and great grandparents to Freddie, Eddy, Ellie, Isaac and Thea. Jean and Michael brought up their family at Lower Bitchfield, surrounded by dogs and ponies, being involved with carriage driving, Dartmoor Pony breeding and a riding school. They were devoted to Bitchfield Church. Outside that, until 1989 Michael was Chairman and Managing Director of the Arthur Syddall Group of businesses, at Harlaxton Road, Grantham and in Sandy, Bedfordshire. He was Chairman of the Bench of Grantham Magistrates, Chairman of Governors at Kesteven and Grantham Girls School and a keen Round Tabler. Jean passed in February 2025, and we are holding a Celebration of their Lives at Manthorpe Church, 11.30 am, Wednesday 7 January 2026, followed by the interment of Michael's ashes alongside his beloved Jean, where they will rest for eternity. The congregation will be invited to share their special memories of Jean and Michael in the service. Flowers are family only.
