I was in a band called Topeka in the 1990s with Ken. He was a great guitarist, vocalist and front man. We kept in touch after he moved to Rudston via phone calls, emails and Christmas cards. I will miss a card from him this year, which always ended with the words `keep on strummin´!

Ken was a best pal at Boothtown Juniors and Heath Grammar. Ken grew up in a large, rambling building, Woodside Hall aka The Mansion. I was across the road in Woodside Cresent. We both completed 3 year teacher training in the early 1960s but a different teacher training colleges. In 1966 I asked Ken to be my Best Man and he accepted - St Jude's, Savile Park.
When my late wife and I uprooted to live in London at the start of 1970 Ken and I lost touch but I believe he still lived with mum in Mixenden to where they moved in the late 1950s, perhaps early 1960s when Woodside Hall was demolished and new houses constructed. My older sister, Dot, was also a teacher in Halifax and knew Ken who was teaching in a primary school in Mixenden. Sometimes in the 1970s, perhaps when his mum died Ken left Halifax, for Scarborough I think.
It was great to read Ken's obituary and learn that he married, fathered two children and, indirectly, many more grand and great grand children. He clearly was greatly loved by family and friends and I am sad that we'd lost touch during these wonderful years. Knowing that his life was so well blessed tempers the sadness I feel at the death of Ken.
