I worked as a "butchers boy" at Gregory's Butchers, when Alan was an apprentice. He was a mountain of a lad but a kind and generous colleague. It was one of my jobs to make the sausages but I was so slow so he used to break off his normal duties - carry half a cow or a whole sheep - to spend 10 minutes making my sausages. He was a giant of a man but a friend to me. RIP Alan.
