Mary Wahlstrom Obituary

Unstoppable 78
She extracted the maximum out of life. Up at 5 in the morning, reading, traveling, debating current events, going to the movies. As Scott Wahlstrom said about his mother, Mary Alice Wahlstrom, "She was a ball of fire."

She was 78.

"She could have lived another 25 years," he said. "I have no doubt about it."

Mrs. Wahlstrom, a retired loan officer, lived in Kaysville, Utah, with her husband, Norman. She loved to travel, but had been reluctant to leave home because he was recovering from a heart attack. Still, she had gone with her daughter, Carolyn Beug, to help settle Mrs. Beug's twin daughters into the Rhode Island School of Design. Mrs. Wahlstrom and Mrs. Beug were returning to Los Angeles, where Mrs. Beug lived, via American Airlines Flight 11.

The energized matriarch of a family of five children and 16 grandchildren, Mrs. Wahlstrom subscribed to about 20 magazines. She read books that she then sent off to her children, and still occasionally played golf. She might never have broken 100, but she did score two holes in one.

Mary Alice, this year would have been your 100th. Many expected you might still be with us. In my heart you are. At the bank you were always kind, always such a lady. What a wonderful example you were for the rest of us young women. A shining star showing us the path in a man's world.

At this time when we celebrate the Christmas season, I decided to look into this site and Mary Wahlstrom's name appeared. She'd be 87 now and like her son said, probably still going strong. I know some strong ladies who are close to this age and they are living life. So may Mary be in a beautiful place enjoying the next life God has decided for her. Someday, I hope to say hi to her.

I had the honor of having MaryAlice Wahlstrom as my mother-in-law, having been married to her son Phil. And, even after being divorced from him so long ago, my dauthers and I loved her so much. She was such a wonderful lady. She had the most wonderful spirit.

I will never forget my youngest daughter calling me early in the morning to ask if I had the tv on, which I did. Then my other daughter telling me she had seen part of the list and saying "Isn't that Grandma Wahlstrom and Aunt Carolyn"? Even after time passed. I had it confirmed. I stayed in bed with not only tissues but a towel for 3 days crying. Three of my dear girlfriends came over to my home as they had never seen me so devastated. Reason . . . because of love and compassion for Carolyn's daughters, and MaryAlice, but also the entire family.

They are with Heavenly Father. God Bless them and all the family as well as others who loss loved ones.

This is far too late in coming but I want to express my condolences to your family. Mary's nephew, James, was a co-teacher with me when this tragedy happened. He never said a word, just bore his grief by himself. I wanted to say how sorry I was for the family's loss. I value James as a friend. He is a wonderful role model for his colleagues and his students. He must have had good family role models for himself. I wish you all comfort in the coming years. Know that God wanted Mary and her daughter with him and they are basking in his glory.

dear wahlstrom family,

i send to you my love, friendship, and deepest, heartfelt sympathies. i will never forget 9/11/01, nor shall i ever forget the faces...the precious lives lost that day. mary wahlstrom is a portrait of beauty, peace and strength...so clearly evident in her picture displayed herein. i think of her often as i do, her daughter carolyn. i pray to god to bless you now and always with the knowledge that "families are forever", and that your loved ones are never far from you. may god bless each of you! i get very emotional when i see mary's and carolyn's pictures, and ask, "why god, why?" beatiful souls departed, but only for a season. please know of my love and support. may you have peace in the knowlwdge of eternal life...that love will overcome hate, good will triumph over evil, and that your loved ones will not have passed in vain. god bless you!

May God be with your Family and may you rest in peace. I am sure this is how your family feels. I do not know Mary, but this poem just seemed to fit.

Remembering You

Your time on earth seemed all too brief;

because I wanted you in my life forever.

And although I really miss you,

in my heart I know that you are at peace.

Still, countless times throughout the day

I find myself remembering you.

Although I cannot see or hear you,

I know that you are with me.

I'll feel you in the warmth of the summer sun.

I'll see you in the brilliance of autumn leaves.

You'll be beside me in the peacefulness of a gentle snowfall

and rejoice with me at the emergence

of the first flowers of spring.

I'm thankful for the times we shared

and the priceless memories too;

for those memories are a comfort now when I lovingly -

Remember You.

Mary's Family,

I lived in Kaysville with my grandparents, I felt terrible when I saw her name and where she was from. How awful for you all. But I know you will see her again and she will greet you with her arms wide open. She watches over you, her family, and loves you very much. Take care,

Now here is a woman I would like to have known and learned her secrets to living long and energetically. It is so sad to know that she was cut short from the years she had left. May God be with her family and friends and may we all live life with such vigor. I would also extend my condolences to the family in the loss of their daughter, wife and mother, Carolyn Beug.

May Mary's zest for life and her love continue living in those who love her. May precious memories of times shared with Mary lighten the sorrow in your hearts. Our hearts cry with you.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn
