Gerard Nugent Obituary
NUGENT - GERARD. Father Gerard, retired Priest of the Archdiocese of Glasgow, died suddenly, on Tuesday, 5th January, 2010, at home, in Govan. Reception of the remains with vigil for the deceased will take place at Our Lady of Lourdes, Lourdes Avenue, Cardonald, on Monday, 11th January, at 7.30pm. Concelebrated Funeral Mass will take place on Tuesday, 12th January, at 11.30am. Burial thereafter to St Peter's Cemetery. R.I.P.

I attended mass at St Patrick's Church several times when Fr Gerry was parish priest. I remember him as a very kind and dedicated man who always did his best for his brothers and sisters in Christ. He is sadly missed.

Gerry was the year ahead of me at Blairs College and I remember him very clearly, his appearance and his nature. He was a lovely lad, kind, warm, approachable and good-natured. Even though it is 50 years since I saw him last I remember fondly.

I first met Father Nugent in St.Peter's, Dumbarton after his ordination and first parish assignment. I was only sixteen at the time but remember all the good he did for the youth of Bellsmyre and later for the derelicts in Glasgow. He will be sadly missed! Rest in Peace Father... Irene and I had the honour of being married by Fr Nugent in St Thomas's RC Church Riddrie on 2nd May 1977. He also baptised me eldest daughter Angela in the same church the following year. we will never forget him. God Bless You Henry Giusti
