I left banks St Stephens in 1998 to go to high school with some of the fondest memories from my time there and many of them are thanks to Mr McMechan. He knew all the children at school personally, doing all he could to support not only us during our time at primary school but also families and the wider community. He had a great sense of humour and since I´ve had my own children go on to attend primary school I´ve not come across a headteacher like him, he was truly the best headteacher and a lovely, genuine person. I´m really sad to hear of his passing and I wish his family lots of love and hope they know the impact that he left was great. RIP sir.

There are not many people I would travel the length of the country to see, but when Ellie told me that she was preparing a 'surprise' 60th birthday party for Neil the distance between Southampton and Preston became insignificant! We kept in touch quite regularly after that and always met up with Neil & Ellie when they were down south on Hayling Island. A 'best friend' during College days and this continued into our 70's - RIP Neil - to one of the best from one of the rest!
