We are deeply saddened by the loss of Verity Murricane, a remarkable advocate, collaborator, and friend to many within the mental health community. Verity leaves behind a legacy defined by courage, compassion, and a commitment to improving the lives of others.
We are the NIHR Oxford Health Biomedical Research Centre, Patients and Research Group and we came to know Verity in her role as a trustee of Eight Bells for Mental Health. Verity consistently championed user-led approaches and community-rooted support. She believed in people, in their potential, and in the value of giving them a seat at the table.
As an active member of the group, Verity was a thoughtful, principled, and generous presence. She asked the questions that mattered. She pushed us to think differently. She reminded us why involving people with lived experience is not just good practice but the foundation of meaningful research and compassionate care.
As we have discovered, Verity´s life was a testament to the strength that can emerge from adversity and the change that can come from speaking openly about mental health. We feel certain that her work will continue in the communities she strengthened, the services she influenced, and the people she inspired.
Verity´s voice, courage, and kindness will remain part of our work. We are grateful for all she shared with us.
We hold her family, friends, and all who knew her in our thoughts. We hope this brings comfort to those who loved her most.
