My husband Gerry Streete worked as a CPN in Muirhouse, Edinburgh. Andrew went out with him a few times to experience his work. A few years later my husband had a myocardial infarction and it was Andrew who looked after him. They remembered each other. He then continued to have regular check ups with him which was great to catch up . He was always so kind and caring. Today we attended an outpatients appointment with Dr Spath for his check up to find out he had sadly passed. We want to send our condolences to your family. My husband wouldn't be alive today without him. Always remembered .

Mr Flappan was my cardiologist. He diagnosed my heart condition. He had such a sense of humour. As a head teacher, he would ask advice about his children lol. Mr Flappan was also my dear mum´s cardiologist. Sadly she passed away. She always spoke highly of him. Sending love and strength to his family. You will be missed Mr Flappan by many xxx

Andrew saw many patients referred from our practice in Duns.
Always gave a sound balanced opinion, the patients he saw liked his approach and humour!
He kindly assessed me after my carotid surgery as a private patient but did not charge me!
A blast from the past.
I liked him as many did, very sad to hear about his passing.

I met Dr Flapan for only 40 minutes; an appointment for a minor issue but he treated me with the patience, kindness and good humour that I have read about in the many other tributes and in that short time he made an unforgettable impression on me. I was shocked and saddened to learn he had died. Gone too soon.

I worked as Dr Flapan´s PA for a couple of years in the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh - one day I´d managed to trap my finger whilst changing the water cooler and started feeling faint. I sat down on the bench seat and promptly passed out - to be revived by Dr Flapan raising my legs and saying "welcome back Mr Stacey" - so I can claim that I was actually treated by the Queen´s Physician. Andrew was a lovely, kind and wise man, always interesting, and unfailingly humorous. It was a privilege to work for him, and our work together was always conducted with a smile along with some gentle ribbing about our respective football teams. I already miss him so much.
With much love and affection.

I was so shocked to learn, when visiting Spire @ Shawfair today, that Dr Flapan has passed away. He was a wonderful man who quite literally "saved my life"when I was diagnosed with Heart Valve problems. He looked after me so well, and we shared (and have) Schnauzers doggies, which we talked about often. He was a "Total Character" and I wish my Sincere Condolences to his wife and two sons....

Andrew was certainly a friendly and jovial chap. I knew him as a supportive football dad, who along with Christiane and their dog, used to fire Reuben on from the sidelines at Currie Star matches. Both my parents were treated by him at some point and I don´t doubt many others owe him their lives too. Thank you Andrew. Condolences to the family.

Andrew was a great character - he made you feel better just by seeing him ! - and there are not many have that gift. The last time I saw him he was telling me me tales of a tie when when consultants were treated like gods by patients and staff - he will be sadly missed by all who knew him and most of all by patients.

Dr Flapan
Where do I start. For 30 years I´ve known you. The chats we have had along with the laughs, ups and downs and the stories we could tell we could write a book! I still can´t believe that you´re gone. Your way with words, your hilarious stories and your big and lovable character I will miss dearly but I am thankful I got 30 years of working beside you. A bit of my heart has gone with you and cardiology will never be the same. RIP Andy x
