A friend from Lasswade High School and Kevock Choir, who always showed his diplomatic skills when situations got tense or nerves got the better of his friends. in later years he always showed humour and patience when dealing with illness and peoples reaction to it. With David and choir friends, I spent a week of Kevock choir celebrations in David's company;; memories never to be forgotton.

I worked with David in the Scottish executive for a year. He was clever, kind considerate and caring with a good sense of humour He was hard worker and down to earth.
He will always be remembered fondly by me and all who knew him.

I have just come across this on the internet today, and am so sorry to hear of David's passing. David was a civil servant in New St Andrew's House and worked alongside my Dad (Harry Ewing) who was a government minister at the time. When my Dad passed away David wrote my Mum the most wonderful letter , and we shared great memories at the funeral. I still have his letter today. David was a lovely gentleman, and I'm sure is greatly missed by his friends and family. Rest in peace David.

David was one of 4 pals who went from Loanhead Primaty to Lasswade High together and who remade contact after retirement. He worked Saturdays and holidays as a butcher’s boy then showed early promise in amateur dramatics, politics and debating. He was destined for great things, then in later life overcame all difficulties when he lost his natural voice due to throat cancer. We pals will sorely miss his forthright opinions and adventure tales.

A highly respected senior Civil Servant, whose reputation in St Andrews House lasted well beyond his retirement. Sharp sense of humour and of course an impressive intellect.
Sad news indeed.
