During the Rev. Gordon McLean´s leadership as the 13th pastor at First Presbyterian Church, Springfield, Illinois, USA, Gordon oversaw a major renovation of our historic sanctuary and construction of the John Brombaugh Opus 35 tracker organ designed and crafted explicitly for FPC. This fabulous instrument and our sanctuary have attracted international attention since its installation. Gordon´s stepping out in faith to form the St. Andrews Corporation has secured mission funding for FPC´s future. His personal commitment to the Health First group of medical volunteers has since blossomed into the Central Counties Health Clinic. A Social Services Desk, a Food Pantry, Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels, the Computer Bank and a recommitment to being a "downtown church" all brought honor to God and attention to the ministries of the church with the big red doors; the Lincoln Church. Gordon once said his job was "social worker" based upon his work and relationships in the larger community.

We give thanks to God for the life, faith, and ministry of the Rev. Gordon McLean. We hold the Rev. Gordon's wife, Betty and his family and friends in our prayers of compassion and loving kindness.

I treasure Gordon's time as pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Springfield, Illinois, U.S.A.
He not only led the church through a renovation of its historic building and the creation of farsighted, innovative community-wide programs, he also opened his heart to the homeless persons and others in need who were our church's neighbors.
We were blessed to have him and Betty in Springfield before he returned to his beloved Scotland.

It was wonderful to listen to Gordon's sermons at First Presbyterian Church. His intellectual and deep perspective made me consider his message with much thought and appreciation. I was blessed to know such a fine Scotsman.
