Ian, my friend; over sixty-four years since we first touched base during Cadet Corps Mondays at school. I always admired your ability to dodge the wearing of boots and the endless, mindless, square bashing by wangling a role helping out in the Armoury! Obviously, however, you weren't reluctant when it came to lacing up your rugby boots! Thank you for the many years of friendship and support in our shared love of the Game and of coaching referees, both in Canada and Scotland. You were always a voice of reason and considerate guidance, especially within the sometime convoluted corridors of Murrayfield. I know of few others who gave so much to others, whether it was leading boys' tours to Canada or helping Canadian referees looking to test their abilities on a wider field. Rena and I will never forget the warm hospitality shown by you and Isobel when we were on one of our many visits to family and the playing fields of my youth. Thank you for your friendship and for your life, so well lived. God rest your soul.
