I am very saddened to learn of Jim's passing. I may have been one of Jim's very first students at the age of six, in Vancouver, B.C., taking lessons in the basement of his house in 1957. I was already taking piano lessons and Jim was very excited to take on a student who was also learning another different instrument. He was ALWAYS motivating and encouraging involvement in music. His wife often came down to the basement studio to say hello to me, as did his son Keith. As a student, I moved to each of his teaching studios as his student base increased. Commercial Drive and then to Broadway, sitting beside the "Academy of the Arts". in his own large premises. I got my first, and only, Gretsch drum set from him which I have to this very day. I have many fond memories of a very fine gentleman.
