"Time-division multiplexing" - and similar astrophysical-technology expressions which rolled off the tongue, are surely an unforgettable hallmark of Dr Smyth, as we referred to him. A polite, highly intelligent gentleman who taught in the undergraduate astrophysics degree in the early 1980s.

Telling us undergraduates tales of "Kavalur, near Bangalore", I could never remember the story itself, mesmerized with his wonderful way of saying those words which ring in my ears even 30 years later.
