Phyllis THOMAS Obituary
THOMAS
Phyllis
(Edinburgh /
East Lothian)
Our mother, Phyllis Thomas, died in July 2025, after a short illness. She was 85. She leaves her children Alison, Fiona and Alistair
and grandchildren Megan, Hanna,
Holly and Evan.
Born in Edinburgh, Phyllis lived for
60 years in the Old Schoolhouse near Inveresk outside Musselburgh.
Over the years, she and her husband Freddie turned the neglected building into a gracious family home with beautiful gardens. After starting as a teacher in Liberton High School, where Freddie taught Art, Phyllis taught primary classes at Campie School in Musselburgh, became the Assistant Head of Cockenzie Primary School and then the Head of Gullane Primary before retiring in 2001. She also contributed to the Scottish curriculum for religious and moral education.
She loved living in Inveresk and had a long and happy retirement, meeting friends, walking dogs and indulging
her love of Edinburgh coffee shops.
She never lost the love for classical music her piano-playing father gave her and lived surrounded by
Freddie's paintings.
We are grateful she was able to
live such a long and rich life.
She is missed by us all.
