William (Bill) MBE
(Scottish Borders)
Peacefully, following a short illness fought with bravery, humour and dignity in the Margaret Kerr Unit surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband of Carol, adored dad of Mark and Lisa, devoted Papa to Leighanne and the late Scott and Pappy to Harry and Rory, loving great grandad to Josh, Brooke and Jay and a loyal and generous friend to many.
Service at Borders Crematorium on Wednesday 12th March 2025 at 1 pm, to which all family and friends are respectfully invited. Family flowers only please. Donations if desired may be made in aid of Macmillan Centre
and the Stroke Unit.

Bill took me under his wing when I started on the Berwick Advertiser in 1964 after leaving Berwick Grammar School. He was great to work with and taught me a lot. Fond memories from over 60 years ago. RIP Bill

As a former colleague of Bill on The Scotsman, it was with great sadness that I learned of his passing.
Bill was a fearless and excellent reporter from the old school when accuracy and local knowledge were critical assets of a reporter´s skills. More importantly he was a lovely man and a great colleague. Sincere condolences to the family and his friends

Bill was a much respected and liked loyal contributor to The Scotsman who received and used his pieces on Border events and happenings. Met up with him years later at the Funeral of Fordyce Maxwell. Sincere condolences to his wife and family and legions of friends.
