My condolences to the family, AJ was always a pleasure to be with a mischievous sense of humour. He was a great member of the running fraternity, and we had many good times on the Jasper to Banff races in Canada. I remember the day he lost his toe in a lawn mower incident, he sent me to look for it hoping it could be stitched back on. I could not find it but advised him his dog was looking very pleased with himself. Even though he was in a fair bit of pain, he smiled and said something about not having to feed !!!!!!!!!! tonight! A great bloke. Kevin

My sincere condolences to Liz Smith and her family at the passing of `AJ´.
I was posted to St George´s from 1972 to 1978, and although never had the privilege of working alongside `AJ´, I knew him as a sincere and decent man and dedicated Police Officer.

My condolences to Mrs. Smith and the rest of the family of Insp. Tony Smith. He was one of my Police Training School Instructors when I joined the Bermuda Police Service. He was such a gentle and very friendly person . He was such an encouragement to me when I was asked to assist at the Training School. He was extremely knowledgeable in the law. No matter where you saw him he always had a pleasant smile. May the God of all comfort be with you all. My prayers are with you at this time. May you always remember the good times spent with your loved one.

Dear Liz and family,

Sending heartfelt condolences from my family to yours on the news of your sad loss.

Tony was my basic training instructor in the 80s, and later my boss when I became a trainer in the 90s. I appreciated his depth of knowledge of law and procedure and his patient demeanour with students. He also had a dry and mischievous sense of humour! These things made "AJ" a pleasure to work with, and a great boss.

On Tony's retirement, Commissioner Coxall wrote, "Inspector Smith has left an indelible footprint on training in the BPS." The training staff added the following scribble: "Minus a big toe." Insiders will get that one.

Wishing your family comfort, peace, and strength as you remember Tony's life and all the lives that he touched.

Sorry to hear that. "AJ" was one of my colleagues in the Police for many years although we never actually worked together, and latterly one of my bosses at IBC. He was a good bloke, and I'm sorry he's gone: sincere condolences to family and friends.
