Wow what sad news. Derrick and I were not close, but we were family. We had a family chat on the steps of the Masonic Lodge on Reid Street about 3 years ago, haven't seen him since. May he Rest in Peace.

What a sad surprise to stumble up....
I knew Bento from work (The GOOD ol' B&V days) and he was always cheerful and light. Positive and pretty funny after his shyness wore off.

Rest in peace Derrick

Our dear friend Derrick is probably the only person that I know who was a genuinely good human. He was loving, generous, funny and never had an unkind word to say about anyone and he never complained about being ill ... ever. We will miss you tremendously Mate and never forget you ... Sincere condolences and love to Cindee, Edwin and all of Derrick´s family.

62 years ago we were invited to the Bento´s house for lunch. The result was a life long friendship with Derrick and his family. I considered Derrick the brother I never had. Though later in life we didn´t see each other as much as I would have liked, when we did it was like we had just seen each other the other day. That was the kind of person he was. Love you Brother, You are sorely missed. Rest in peace Cindee please except my condolences for your loss

To Cindee and the Bento family: You have my sincere condolences on the passing of Derrick. We attend Bermuda Institute and graduated in 1978 together. Whenever I visited the Warwick SDA Church during my visits to the island, it was so good to chat and catch up with Derrick and of course, his smile will not be forgotten. I look forward to meeting him again when Jesus comes to take His children home. May you find comfort and peace during this time.

Derrick was a warrior who faced his illness with courage and strength. He was a schoolmate who you could rely on for positivity and a cute smile. I am thankful to have known him and I must give Kudos to his dedicated sister, Cindy for providing him with the care that he needed at all times. May the many memories that you have from your relationship with Derrick, carry you through this painful time. May he rest in peace.
