Memories are what we treasure when we come to the end of the road. Aunty Dormet, I will never forget you, and your memories live on. She lived in Ewarton, St. Catherine, Jamaica, and she was my father's sister. My task as a child, as my mom lived close by, was to stay with her nightly. Oh, how I treasure those times with her.
She was the biggest cook ever and cooked the largest meals for the two of us. At that time, she worked at Dixon's Drug Store in Linstead. She would take me to her place of work at times, but on this particular day, she bought a bottle of perfume called, *"Big Wheel."* As soon as we reached the house, the perfume broke. Oh boy, the house smelled sweet for weeks! Aunty Dormet was not
mad but told me, *"My daddy will have to buy it back"*. I miss my aunty so much, me, my sister, and my 3 brothers, we miss you, aunty, walk good. Sleep on and take your rest. We love you, but Jesus loves you best... your niece Pal, Levi's daughter

Aunty Dorm/ Dormet/Mrs. Franklin/ Lady-D as she was known to us in Jamaica, was unique in many ways, and that sets her apart.
I recall with a smile now on one of her surprised trips to Jamaica (this she would often do jokingly to surprise us by not telling us that she was visiting) anyways, she told my mother ( Loidel her sister) she was sending something for her with a lady so she was to meet the lady at the airport who she call "miss duffy" and would be wearing a red dress, so mama started to get agitated about this strange instruction and muttered " bet is she coming and trying to surprise me". However, mama chartered a taxi and went to meet "miss Duffy" . While waiting, lo and behold it was aunt Dormet wearing a red dress. For many years we would be teasingly refer to her when she came to Jamaica as " miss ,Duffy" while she laughed. Aunty was scared of worms and lizards. She was a good home-maker, always preparing tasty meals which was one of her hobbies.
Her space had to be spotless likewise meticulously attired at all times ....ooohh she was a classy dresser wore only the best...her favourite clothes store was Mark & Spencer. She loved hosting dinner functions be it birthdays, wedding anniversaries etc. She always loved to cater.
Aunt Dormet hardly visits without her husband Vincent Franklin (who we all called Uncle Vin). She was proud to return home especially for Christmas holidays (and stopping in Canada by her niece Evadne who predeceased her some months ago and was laid to rest in Jamaica) would flew home together making those Christmas holidays beyond ordinary. These family gatherings, sharing jokes, cooking huge pots of food for the families was some of our rich undiluted fun filled memories. I was privileged to have visited my aunt Dormet and uncle Vin in Bermuda for a duration of 3 months in 1995 which still holds beautiful memories.
We thank God for lending Aunt Dormet to us and with understandable sadness/mixed feelings we release her back to her Maker with the blessed hope of meeting again on the side of eternal bliss.

I'll never forget the childhood memories of the lady who use to come by my grandma's house and bite my toes (smiles). Aunty Dorm was always one who commands respect, you dare not step out of line and speak badly.
My grandaunt surely made the best bread and banana bread, whenever she came to Jamaica she'd bake by her sister Loidell's house and the atmosphere would be filled will sweet aroma.
She truly lived her life and she also left us with unforgettable memories, may her soul rest in peace.
