Frida, "granny" was my grandfather's (Robert Chappell) second wife. He adored her, as did I, for her remarkable grace, poise, kindness and generosity. The wonderful memories of her home, the cottage, Coral Beach Club, Horizons and the beautiful gardens she so lovingly cared for bring a warm smile. She was one of a kind of an amazing life and generation and will missed. Rest peacefully Frida (granny), you were very special. Blessings to all her family and friends. Through her generous and enthusiastic support, Elfrida Chappell, Smith College, Class of 1935, helped initiate the Landscape Studies Program at Smith, the first in a liberal arts undergraduate college in the United States. Visits with her in Bermuda, including walks and talks in her glorious garden, were always charmed occasions. We salute her long life that enriched the lives of so many others and send deepest sympathy to her grandchildren for their grievous loss.

A wonderful and beautiful person. I worked at Horizons for twenty years and she always remembered my name and the other staff members aswell. No need for it, as the Matriarch of such a big company, but she did anyway. Mrs. Chappell is a massive loss for Bermuda. May God bless You and take care of you.

An extraordinarily beautiful and talented lady, and a deeply caring and generous friend. Her grace, dignity and strength set an example for us all. My thoughts are with her family.

Mrs. Chappell was a woman of sharp intellect and great generosity. Behind her quiet elegant exterior was a firmness which demanded that others met her high standards.
Mrs. Chappell joined my advisory committee when I created the "Made in Bermuda" exhibition at the Bermuda National Gallery about 15 years ago. She and Nancy Valentine were my silver experts - although both were also knowledgeable about local historical furniture, architecture and art. Between these two great ladies, an impressive collection of extraordinary "made in Bermuda" silver was assembled. In addition, they put together a comprehensive list of Bermudian silver marks.
It is sad that Mrs. Chappell is no longer with us but she has left many special memories for us all to savour for years to come.
Mum (Alice Percival) and I send deep condolences to Mrs. Chappell's family and many friends.
