Frank Sinatra Jr. Obituary

Frank Sinatra Jr., a singer and conductor who followed in his famous father's footsteps, has died. He was 72.

Sinatra died Wednesday, March 16, in Daytona Beach, Florida. His sister, the singer Nancy Sinatra, wrote on Facebook that he died of cardiac arrest while on tour.

"Sleep warm, Frankie," she wrote.

Her brother had been scheduled to give a concert Wednesday evening at the Peabody Auditorium in Daytona Beach. In his show, "Sinatra Sings Sinatra," he sings many of his father's classic songs to orchestral accompaniment, tells stories about his dad, and shows family videos.

Read More About Frank Sinatra Sr. Born Francis Wayne Sinatra Jan. 10, 1944, in Jersey City, New Jersey, he was singing by his early teens.

On Dec. 8, 1963, Sinatra was kidnapped from a room at Harrah's in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. He was released two days later, however, after his father paid a $240,000 ransom.

When he was 19, the younger Sinatra was the singer for Sam Donahue's band. He also worked with Duke Ellington.

Unlike his father, however, he never had a hit of his own.

In 1966, Frank Sinatra Jr. appeared in the movie "A Man Called Adam," which starred one of his father's best friends, the entertainer Sammy Davis Jr. He also played guest-star roles on television shows.

In 1989, Sinatra sang "Wedding Vows in Vegas" on "What Up, Dog?" – an album by the band Was (Not Was).

Last August, Sinatra sang the national anthem at a New York Yankees home game. The Yankees had a special place in his heart because the team regularly plays Frank Sinatra Sr.'s signature song, "Theme From New York, New York," after a win in Yankee Stadium. The elder Sinatra died in 1998 at 82.

Nancy and Tina, your brother was a great man. A great tribute to both your Mother And Father. In a world where families break up every day you ladies should be very proud that your parents were strong enough to overcome all the negative things that life has to throw at you when you are in the spotlight. Your family will give many generations of great entertainment for thousands of years. Sleep warm Frankie. Big hugs to your Mom and Papa.

CONDOLENCES TO THE FAMILY OF FRANK SINATRA JR. WHO I MET IN THE EARLY 1970'S WHEN I WAS A MILWAUKEE POLICE OFFICER, WORKING OUT OF POLICE HEADQUARTERS, AND FRANK APPEARED IN A HOTEL, WHERE I PARKED MY VEHICLE, AS A COURTESY OF THE HOTEL MANAGEMENT WHERE FRANK APPEARED ON A WEEKEND. THE HOTEL MANAGEMENT WAS CONCERNED ABOUT THE MUCH EARLIER KIDNAPPING THAT FRANK EXPERIENCED, AND ASKED THAT I BE IN ATTENDANCE.

I HAD BEEN AN ADMIRER OF FRANK SR.'S MUSIC FOR YEARS, AND PERFORMED MY FIRST PROFESSIONAL JOB SINGING FOR A WEDDING CEREMONY AT AGE 12, MANY YEARS BEFORE MEETING FRANK JR.

BEING A TRADITIONALIST SINGER OF THE AMERICAN SONG BOOK, I HAVE BEEN SINGING SINATRA AND TONY BENNETT MUSIC FOR MANY YEARS.

SPENDING TIME BETWEEN SHOWS WITH FRANK IN HIS ROOM AT THE HOTEL, BROUGHT US TOGETHER AS FRIENDS, AND WHEN HE APPEARED ANYWHERE IN THE 50 MILE RADIUS OF MILWAUKEE, I WAS NOTIFIED AND MY FAMILY WERE HIS GUESTS AT HIS CONCERTS.

IT WAS THIS INTRODUCTION TO FRANK JR. AND MY EVENTUAL RESIGNATION FROM THE MILWAUKEE POLICE DEPARTMENT AFTER 18 YEARS AND MOVING TO THE LOS ANGELES AREA, THAT BROUGHT US CLOSE TOGETHER AGAIN IN THE 1980'S, WHERE I RETURNED TO MY BROADCAST ENGINEERING PROFESSION, THAT I LEFT IN 1962.

FRANK INVITED ME TO HIS HOME ON NUMEROUS OCCASION'S, AND I ALSO WENT TO MANY OF HIS CONCERT PERFORMANCES LOCALLY IN THE LOS ANGELES AREA.

IT'S TOO BAD, THE YOUTH OF TODAY ARE INTO THE NOISY MUSIC, IN WHICH THE LYRIC'S CANNOT BE UNDERSTOOD, THERE ARE DANCERS JUMPING AROUND, NEEDLESSLY AND THEY CANNOT HEAR THOSE MEANINGFUL BEAUTIFUL LYRICS THAT EMANATED FROM BOTH SINATRA SR. AND JR.

I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO ATTEND THE FUNERAL OF FRANK SR. IN 1998.

A TERRIBLE TRAGEDY, FOR FRANK JR. TO BE TAKEN FROM US AT SUCH AN EARLY AGE.

DONALD H. PINSKER, PROUD FORMER MILWAUKEE POLICE OFFICER /INVESTIGATOR, 1962-1980

RETIRED BROADCAST ENGINEER, THE CBS TELEVISION NETWORK, WEST COAST HEADQUARTERS, TELEVISION CITY, HOLLYWOOD / LOS ANGELES, 1982-2005

STILL SINGING THE STANDARDS OF SINATRA AND TONY BENNETT, ONLY MUSIC IN WHICH THE LYRICS CAN BE CLEARLY UNDERSTOOD.

Dear Frank Jr. A whole group of us in the bay area went to see his show at, a tribute to his fathers music and career at the Wells Fargo Center on October 9th, 2015 in Santa Rosa. The show was wonderful and we got to go backstage afterwards as invited guests. Although it was brief, Frank Jr. Was charming and loved the fact we loved the show. He said he had not been up to this area in 30 years and how beautiful it was. He was tired and told us his mom was 99 years ago and doing well. I am sure her heart is broken as ours is too. Frank Jr. conducted the orchestra for his father in his dad's final years of touring. I know they are both up there making some fine music. Frank Jr did say that the kids of today don't know his dad's music because they listen to todays music on their I pods and it's sad. We'll miss you Frank Jr. Keep playing the good songs! Sincerely, Joyce Brian, Kim, John, Elena, Walt & Jeff.

To The Sinatra Family: I am so very sorry to hear that Frank Sinatra JR has past away, I was so sad to hear the news. I remember seeing him on "The Smothers Brother's Comedy Hour, I saw him performing "New York" at Belmont Stakes & Plus perform "The Star Spangled Banner" at New York Yankees Stadium watching it on TV.I think every one will miss him performing, but the his music will live on still, I love hearing "New York", "I Did It My Way" and few other songs. I know that his father will greet his son at the gate & reunited again they will be performing together again with Sammy & Dean. A real startlingly announcement. He did a wonderful job sustaining his Father's image plus incorporating some of his material in his show. We had the pleasure of seeing Frank, Jr just a few weeks ago in Palm Springs. Performed beautifully. Was a great show.
He was a star in his own right. Some of his material was individualistic and had real substance. Hard to believe we won't be seeing Frank, Jr again. A real loss.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Sinatra family; his mother,Nancy Sr., his sisters Nancy, Tina, Son Michael, and nieces AJ and Amanda. I was a great admirer of Frank Jr. and was lucky enough to see him perform in concert as well as to meet him. He was one that was very kind, humble, and took the time to talk to his fans. He was a gifted musician that proudly served as his dad's conductor during the last seven years he performed. My only regret is that he did not make more albums as I enjoyed his recordings, especially That Face. May you all be comforted during this painful time and know that so many are thinking of you and talking about the impact Frank Jr. had upon so many people. Rest in Peace Frank Jr.

My deepest sympathy to Frank Jr.'s mother and sisters and of course his son. I was deeply shocked and saddened. I might add that I have still difficulty with his father's death in 1998.
I am a great fan and believed that Frank Sinatra would live forever and that the last voice we would hear would be his. I actually invited Mr. and Mrs Sinatra
to our beach home in the Hamptons many years ago and received a phone call from Dorothy Uhlemann thanking me for the invitation but said they were returning to California as Mr. Sinatra had finished filming in the city earlier than expected. I wasn't surprised knowing his "one take."

Again, I hope happy memories will sustain your family during this most difficult time.

I went to see him at The Canyon Club in Agoura California a few years ago in August. Bill Miller was with him on piano and they were backed by a full orchestra conducted by Terry Woodson. It was almost sold out and the best seat I could get was in the last row and way over in left field. I could see and hear him very well however, and he was great and rea!ly had that same quality and timing in his voice that was very close to his Dad. When he left the stage, his departure surprisingly brought him right up the aisle next to me. I was standing applauding him with the rest of the audiance, so I turned, extended my hand over my chair and said to him "Way to go Frank" and he very graciously slowed his pace, shook my hand and said "Thank you SIR", putting a big emphasis on "Sir".
I thought to myself at that moment and still know to be true,
" What A Professional ! ".
God Bless Father and Son, their family, and the marvelous musical Spirit I will remember and keep listening to throughout my life.
