To Laverne and family of Ivan, I am so sorry to hear of Ivan's passing - he was so much fun to work with at USAir. Always so kool, and a smile - a gentleman with the passengers as well. May God bless you all and as I am, smiling with these memories.

My condolences to all of Ivan "Bootie´s" family. My earliest memories of Bootsie was him and Andy Smith being boys a little older than me at Richard Allen AME Sunday School. Bootsie had a clear distinctive voice. More recently he was often the first Bermudian voice that visitors would hear arriving at the airport. Every word was clearly announced and his routine airline announcements sounded like he definitely had been taught to express himself clearly like one would when doing a formal recitation. You immediately respected him because of the way that he presented himself whether making announcements, dealing with passengers who had lost luggage or greeting them at his taxi. He was a good example for any young man providing good customer service. I tried to copy what he did because he was so good at what he did.

To: LaVern and the Smith Family,
We are sorry to hear of your loss.
Our acquaintance with Ivan Rudolph (Bootsie) Smith, started as first-year students at Bermuda Technical Institute. Ivan and his colleagues from Shinbone Alley were a lively and friendly group that we St. David´s Islanders befriended early and enjoyed interacting with.
As friends, we shared various interests, hobbies, and concerns. Many permanent friendships were created and developed from those early exchanges, and Ivan was in the middle of all of them.
Ivan was truly a special classmate and lifetime friend who lived his life with purpose and passion. We will remember him for his kindness, laughter, and vibrant spirit.
May your hearts find peace and comfort in the memories and joy he brought to life. We hope that you find consolation in knowing that he has touched so many lives in a positive way.
May the peace and comfort of God help you during this challenging time.

Saddened to hear of Bootsie's passing. I'm reminiscing of happier (and fun) times as children playing together in Shinbone Alley - skylarking, running races - in and out of Aunt Rete's house. What wonderful memories!
Family, cherish those memories. May God grant you comfort and peace. Love you guys.
