Only fair winds now John as you sail away....
I´ll never forget when you invited me aboard Elizabeth II, the best day ever.
And remembering the Newport Bermuda race we did together-on Morgan´s Ghost- I almost set the galley on fire and you came to the rescue!

I guess I knew John for just over 30 years. He was a fixture in sailing and at RHADC and he will be greatly missed by all of us. He was always a class act with a deep knowledge of sailing and seamanship. He was also one of a few people who knew how to make a one design boat boat go faster. Fair winds mate.

John what a legend. I was blessed to have known him and discussed the world in many long night Philosophy sessions.
I met (Bermuda) John in Panama 36 years ago on the Europe World Rally. We kept in touch over the years and on other sides of the world and 12 hour time zone differences, which meant late night Philosophy only made sense for 1 each time!
My thoughts with Liz and all his friends from around the world.
Cool runnings John.

My heart goes out to Liz and friends of John on his passing. He was one of a kind. I will always carry very good memories of our younger years "horsing around" in the Belmont area, late nights in town, camping on various islands, sailing on Bright Star out of Salt Kettle (John did the sailing), "no blood no foul" basketball etc. etc. John was genuine in everything he did, and I always knew he would have my back if ever the need arose. He will be sorely missed.

I had the privilege of meeting John in Plymouth, decades ago through the university sailing community. Though our connection was brief, he was deeply important to someone who is very dear to me. I´m holding his family and friends in my thoughts and sending heartfelt sympathy during this difficult time.

It was with shock and great sadness to hear about the passing of John, and I offer my deepest condolences to Liz and all his close friends in Bermuda.

I first met John in Bristol when I was just 18 years old and he was 17 years old, I was the girlfriend of Dave´s his cousin. I instantly warmed to john and loved his honour and his adventurous spirit. This warm connection lasted throughout his life.

John visited us over the years in England, often spontaneously, for those that knew John this will come as no surprise. He would rock up and it was just like we had seen each other yesterday. We always had so much fun, it was impossible not to be drawn to his warmth and humour and the twinkle of mischief. He was a wonderful spirit abd we will miss his visits.

Sleep well John, you will be missed and always remembered.
