I spent many a night with Mr Place at City Hall during the 90´s waiting for Bermuda Festival performances to end.
I enjoyed his company and he told me a little about the early days of the Recorder. He was a real gentleman. My condolances to the family who was so lucky to have him foe so many years. Lee Davidson

Mr. Place. Brownie. What a special human that I was fortunate enough to work with at City Hall. The earth is better for the miles you walked on it. My sincere condolences to the family.

Cousin Browny. You had a long and blessed life.
God gave you 108 years. What an absolute blessing.
I remember as a child coming from school and going to City Hall to visit cousin Browny before catching the bus. We stopped there quite often.
My memory is,a kind and genial man, well dressed and always a smile on his very pleasant face.
You are gone
But thank you
For all these soft, sweet things
You have left behind
In our thoughts
With your kind presence
And in our hearts
Rest well sleep in heavenly peace cousin Browny.

I met Mr Brownlow Place this year (2024) when a female relative of his, brought him over to the Gift Club in St. George´s. When she informed me of his age, I tried to calculate what year he was born - the year 1916, I thought. Mr Place amazed me when he stood straight, no cane, no wheelchair, no `bent forward´ arch - just straight up like a soldier. On another note, I also remembered two things he said in a televised interview. He said words to the effect of, "I exercised a lot as a body builder, and I said `NO´ a lot. People didn´t like it, but I didn´t worry about what people thought." Prayers of comfort to the Family, and may perpetual light shine upon him.

Dear Place Family:
Our sorrow is outmatched by the memory of the joy, energy and exuberance that Bro. Place carried with him wherever he went. We are certainly sorry to have him leave us, but we rejoice in his meeting his saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ, and becoming one of those revered ancestors who have gone before us. Our prayers are offered for your comfort and solace, along with our deepest respects.

Charlene, Lenny and the entire Place/Walker family please know you are in my prayers. Brownie was truly one of a kind. I don´t think Factory Lane will ever have the same vibe. I consider it an honor to have known him and Mom-Mags. My God grant you peace during this season of transition. Cherish the memories both physical and Spiritual. Blessings to all. Amanda and family.

When peace like a river attendeth my way-When sorrows like sea billows roll-Whatever my lot,Thou has taught me to say-It is well with my soul....These words remind me of my good friend and adopted grandfather Brownie...It was approximately 7 years ago that l first got to really know who Brownlow Place actually was when l became his next door neighbour in the complex in which we lived...He was the most celebrated resident at 101 years old...As i got to know him better,it became obvious that he was someone that l needed to keep an eye on and learn from...He was in and out of the complex driving his little grey car which l really could not understand(101)...I thought NO WAY....We became the best of friends and as time rolled on and he became a year older every year,I would often get a soft knock on my door from him to assist him with his tv remote...He seemed always to touch the wrong button...I was really touched when early one morning just before l was about to leave for surgery at the hospital, there was that soft knock on my door and on opening it,in walks Brownie....He stated "I understand you are having surgery today"I replied in the affirmative....He then said "Let's have a word of prayer....He held my hands and prayed over me...I watched Brownie most days when he did hid 5 or 6 laps around the complex to get is exercise or was there in the back yard hanging out his clothes....At 105,he gave up driving and told me that these children on the road were to wreck less....Towards the end of his life,Brownie told me one day as he sat in his recliner "You know one day you are gonna come look for me and l will be gone"....As I fight back the tears to those words he stated,l look every day now for him and he is gone...To Charlene and his entire family,Brownie exemplified CHRISTIANITY....I mourn with you but l thank you for allowing me to share a part of his life with you....and l thank God Almighty for allowing me to get to know him....Whenever l departed from Brownie....He always said 2 words to me which I will now say to evryone who knew him.....BE GOOD.....God Bless you all.....Sleep in peace Brownie....You have earned your eternal rest....Jchristopher Simons...
