My sincerest condolences to your family. I will never forget Mrs. Place. She was a very soft spoken, wonderful lady. I can remember when I first met her, It was New Years Day 1973, I was fourteen years old. She had knocked on our door to ask us if we could offer some water for the gombeys, that were dancing in the street at Ely's Harbour in Somerset. That was the beginning of a friendship with her and my family. My mother had just cooked a pot of Peas and Rice, Baked Chicken and Vegetables, not knowing we were about to have guests. Everybody ate and drank kool-aid. The thanks we received was the Place Gombeys dancing on my front porch. It was the first of many, I can remember that they continued doing that for a quite few years. We cooked and they danced. I also remember Mrs. Place recruiting my mother who was a seamstress to help make some of the costumes the Place Gombeys wore. It was a great and exciting time back then. I just wanted to share my memory with your family, and let you know that my prayers are with you.
May God Bless Your Family
p.s.: I have relatives, Alfred "Chin" Butterfield, Edwina, Sharmaine, and Shawnette Butterfield that are also related to you. (Their mothers' are my cousins.)
