My deepest sympathy is with you all. I can remember having Mrs. Forde as a substitute teacher at Harrington Sound in the 90's. Having run into her in town around 2009, she remembered my face and called me by name. Her smile, and her dedication to education will forever be engraved in my heart. May she forever rest in peace. Words are so very hard to find at this time as l am so devastated as l learn of the passing of my friend Joan whom was always most kind and considerate when we had our chats. My deepest sympathies to ALL of the family during your time of bereavement.
Be well encouraged in knowing that " precious on the sight of our LORD, is the death of HIS saints. Psalms 116 v 15.
Family be strong in the LORD and the great POWER OF HIS AWESOME MIGHT.
Earth has no sorrows that Heaven cannot heal

Very upset to hear of the passing of Mrs. Ford. She taught me in P4, at Harrington Sound then my children, as a substitute at Victor Scott. She always remembered us and called us by name whenever we saw her. My condolences to the family. May she Rest in Peace.

To Valerie Symonds, Jeanmaire and all the many many family
members I remember, too numerous to list here. My sincere condolences on Joan's passing. I got to know Joan several yesrs ago when we joined Bank of Butterfield's softball team. We were probably the worst players but had the best time just enjoying the training. I don't think we qualified to play in real games. What I do remember is how joyful and happy I felt whenever I was with Joan. She had the ability to laugh at herself and just have a good time. On the few times over the years if I happened to see her, we would easily reminisce. May God provide you with comfort and the nearness of his presence always.

So sorry to hear of the death of a very dear friend. We go back to childhood days, continue on to college, we were roommates, we sang in groups at Bethel church and formed a Teachers' College group. She was a great teacher and was truly dedicated to the profession.
I am so happy that I had the privilege of seeing and communicating with her in some of her last days. I hope to see her in soon when Jesus comes.

To Jeanmaire, cousin Bummy and Valerie and entire family of our beloved aunt Joan.... My heart is saddened. I have just returned to the island and was informed of dear Joan's passing. My heart is so heavy. Please be comforted in knowing she touched many lives-young and old. Her encouraging words to the hundreds of children she touched have inspired and renewed faith and belief in self. It was an honour knowing her. The last time we visited in the hospital we shared poems she had taught my daughter, Erica at Harrington Sound Primary and she remembered. We prayed and talked about her teaching days and the time little Gabby came to Elliot to show me she could write a W at one year old! She is now with our Saviour but her presence is felt strongly in the halls of the schools where she taught and in the hearts of so many. After retiring she was one of the only substitute teachers who stayed until 6 to mark the children's books, clean the room and leave notes for the teachers. She did this because she really cared. Our children were her children. Our struggles were her struggles and our pain was her pain. I have taken a page from her book and do the same when I am called to assist in the numerous schools on the island. She was a mentor to me. She had a great impact on my life and on the lives of so many educators. We would say-if you cannot get a child to grasp a skill, use the methods aunt Joan used-they are simple and really do work. She was an ace at helping children learn spelling words and poems. She showed us all that teaching is not a 9 to 4 job! My condolences go out to the entire family. The entire Bermuda Public School system has lost a Bermuda hero. We will continue to teach our children about her life's work and her contributions. She will always be in our hearts and thoughts. Ms. Forde "to me", was one of my endeared primary school teachers and continued through some 40 years to touch the pulse of my life; be it in the grocery store or stopping to update me on Erika and the children. She taught my children at Harrington Sound and whenever I saw her, she would enquire about them. We had many long conversations at Marketplace in Shelly Bay. She will be missed.
