Nancy was a darling friend and neighbor for many years in NYC. I was just thinking about her and in my search, learned of her passing. My condolences to Tina, Nick and Rachel. I remember you all fondly!

Tina and Nick: Please accept my sincere condolences on the loss of that wonderful mother or yours! I thought the world of her, and valued her friendship. I was off island and have only just learned, and am so very sorry. I just know she is already at the big AUCTION in the sky!

Aunt Nancy was a great inspiration to me as a Bermudian female poet/artist. I wrote the following poem for her which she liked very much, felt captured her intentions. It is a tribute to her creativity, and particularly notes her luminous fiberglass panels which adorn many a Bermudian home.
She Brought the Sea Inside
for Nancy W. Valentine
Our homes in her fiberglass panels,
Sargasso Seaweed, bivalve mollusk
shells, coral sand caught in the swing
of a door, opened up the ocean's chambers.
A zigzag triptych screen, a testimony to
our faith in turning turquoise waters.
Arranged the details like a wave had just
tilted them so. What we knew from
swimming underwater, what we felt as
the tide tipped up and in on Windsor
Beach, rushed to shore the ocean's
luminous loot. She brought the sea inside!
Allowed light to filter through the purple
sea fan's porous hand, unable to hold
it tight, illuminating our real treasure,
next to all the other household goods:
cedar chests and Chippendale chairs,
the Spode, silver, and Waterford crystal.

Debbie and I are deeply saddened by Nancy's passing. We enjoyed many great times with Nancy and Dick.
