Katrin,
I am extremely saddened at your loss. You may remember me as the Pharmacist/Manager at the Apothecary. Neil and I played music together in bands put together by the late Dr Laidlaw Fraser-Smith. Neil was one of the most vibrant people that I have ever met. His energy was infectious. I have followed his expoits with intrigue since leaving Bermuda. Neil's loss leaves a big void, but he has left many wonderful memories for a diverse group of people to cherish. He will be missed.

Thank you dear Dr. Burnie, for being you. From all the pets in Bermuda who you cared for. (with a special thank you from little Miss Sophie, who wants to convey the collective grief felt by all animals, land and sea lubbing, that you are gone from here, but in awe that you are now dancing with whales in the heavens. May your family find the strength they need to cope with this saddest of transitions.

Words cannot describe how terribly shocked and upset i was to hear this news. Im still in disbelief. This is so so unbearable to comprehend and i wish so much strength for your whole family at this time and always. I feel so privileged to have known him. It was truly a pleasure every time i briefly bumped into him out and about or at the vets office. His character was such a positive influence. Active, vibrant, optimistic and full of life is how i think of him. Any bit of knowledge he would share with you was like he just discovered the earth for the first time, he put that much into everything he would describe to you. He was such an intelligent man. Every opportunity i had to grasp a piece of his knowledge on any subject i would in our short conversations. Dr. Neil Burnie was truly a funny caring lovely man and i am honored to say i knew him. i am so so deeply sorry and saddened, you have my love and heartfelt sympathy at this time and forever.

It was extremely hard to accept the passing of my friend when I received the sad news because it was at 9.00am that very morning, that he questioned me about juvenile Tiger Sharks at the Van Buren gas station in Flatts before we both headed out to sea..It was hard to imagine that that would be the last time I had opportunity to speak to this Giant of a Man,friend, vet, fisherman.Neil was an all rounder and so much fun...May the God of Heaven richly Bless his entire family and friends in their days of reflection of life with Neil..He will be so so missed by all who's lives he touched.'We have indeed lost an Icon...

dear Katrin and family, Our deepest condolences- Neil was such a vibrant, exuberant, compassionate person with such a zest for life, and sense of humour, talented and caring. You couldn't help but smile and be joyful when in his presence. I can't imagine how difficult this all is for you. I am thinking of him swimming seas that we have not even dreamed of, and meeting all kinds of wonderful sea creatures, but even so, his passing leaves a huge hole here in earth.

Dear Katrin and Family,
We were surprised at the untimely passing of Neil. He left a lasting impression on a very large number of Bermuda residents both through his vetinary work and of course his other activities in oceanography and music. A greater than life character gone to soon.

What a lovely man. When he was at Endsmeet, many years ago, I remember him coming out in the middle of the night to end the suffering of one of my cats who had a tumour, and his sympathy and understanding when a previous loved pet was needing euthanasia at the end of a long and eventful life. My sympathies to the family.

Katrin and family,
Neil was a kind, funny, loving, adventurous, caring man. He made us laugh, looked after our pets with empathy and love. He dropped fish off at the door at 5 in the am, he built a shark cage in PMs yard (doubt he ever got in it!)
What a man! May the love he gave you all support you in this terrible time and may you know you have many friends standing by. We will all miss him very much. Love and hugs, Wendy, Johnny and Katie Trimingham

It's hard to imagine anyone more alive than Neil Burnie was. His eyes positively twinkled with life. He was already a legend when he was alive. A huge light went out when he died. From the loving vet who also cared for the whole ocean, to the fearless adventurer, to the boundless innovator, enthralling speaker, and the bare foot saxophonist who also played the mouth organ, you will be sorely missed. Adieu Neil Burnie. Adieu.

Judy and I visit Bermuda twice a year. We first met Neil at Art In The Park celebration. Neil was playing sax and harp with his band. Wow what a great group. Neil was so kind as he asked me to sit in on a number after he learned I could play blues harp in second position. Thus I made my international debut. From there Judy and I made it appoint to get to his every performance. As a Vet, he gave excellent care to our two grand dogs, Prince and Milo whom we look after while house sitting for our friends the Woods in Devonshire.
Sorry. We will not be on Island on Sunday for his burial.
Thanks Neil for all your diverse contributions to Bermuda

I met Neil in my late teens, when he first arrived on the Island to work for my Uncle Bob Steele. He quickly became part of the extended family of the Steeles, Grays, Morrisons and ourselves and we all spent many wonderful times together. Holidays, birthdays, weddings and too many other times to mention. His loss is devastating to so many, but we will all cherish every moment that we were lucky enough to share with him. Our heartfelt condolences to Katrin, Kim, Oscar and the pets. With love, Karen and the rest of the Brashier Family
