Paul was one of the most memorable classmates in my sculpture classes at Parsons. His intellectual yet playful work had an influence in my journey.
I recently looked him up and was sad to have missed the chance to re connect. It was good to see all the good he has done. God bless you Paul, and your family.

I have hesitated for a long time about whether or not to write something in Paul's memory. I haven't seen him since 1967 so what right do I have given the passage of time? However, I do have an abiding memory which I would like to share. Paul was a couple of years below me at Warwick Academy. It was November 1963. A group of us were kicking a football around after school on the lower field at Warwick Academy when Paul came down the bank from the next field and stood behind the goal and watched us for a couple of minutes. When there was a pause in the play he spoke. He said, "Hey you byes, they got Kennedy." Those exact words. They say you always remember where you were and what you were doing when certain historic events occurred. It was from Paul that I learned of the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Something and nothing I suppose compared to the memories of those who knew him throughout his adult life, but 60 years on it is still as clear as day in my memory. RIP Paul.

Paul and I had a very memorable sail on the J boat Endeavour when she was first rebuilt. He was a good man to have as a shipmate and I will miss him.

Dear Heather, I think I first met Paul in 2006 on my first trip to Bermuda. Always welcoming, always a friend and always an absolute pleasure to spend time with. Very sad to hear of his passing. My thoughts are with you all. Jason.

Dear Heather and family,
Julie and I send our dearest condolences. Paul was a dear friend and provided great service to many young people as a sailing instructor. However, we will remember him for his tireless support of the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club and its members through his keen eye for aesthetics.
As the RBYC prepared for the 100th Anniversary of the Newport to Bermuda Race, Paul carefully hung the half-models of the race winners on the walls of the Trophy Lounge so that one could easily observe the design development of fast sailing yachts during the period from 1906 to 2006. The centennial race attracted a record of 260 plus yachts.
Paul constantly advised or made improvements to the club's interior and assisted with everything from the selection of paint colours for the club's interior walls to planning and the installation of the exhibit in the Club of Artefacts from Furness, Withy & Co Ltd's ship, the Queen of Bermuda, which made weekly cruises to Bermuda in the 1950's 1960s.
It can be said that the beauty of the Club's interior is such because of Paul's dedication and skills. He always gave his all to any project he was involved in and was always happy to explain his reasoning.
We will miss seeing Paul at the Club.

Paul and Reid were such good mates - the two of them are now reunited and causing chaos up there! I have some of Paul´s artwork around the house - what talent he had. The coming months will be difficult. Just give thanks that he was part of your lives. He will never be forgotten by any of us....
Sincere condolences

Our heartfelt condolences to the Doughty families. Paul has definitely left a void in the Bermuda nautical community, which he was involved with since childhood and instilled by his father. He will be sorely missed. RIP Paul. Death is but a journey to a much better place.

I am deeply saddened at news of Paul's passing. He and David Mitchell were my "hanging team" when I was Senior Curator at the Bermuda National Gallery in the 1990s. We had the jolliest times - especially when we realized that Paul's nose was exactly the right height for the middle of paintings - our walking yard stick.
And of course JT and I had great fun with Paul at RBYC sailing events.
A great loss.

So very sorry to hear of the passing of Paul. Though the loss you bear of Paul's passing is overwhelmingly painful and raw at this time, may the coming days and months graciously heal this pain and deep personal loss and give way to joy, pride and warmth at the legacy Paul has left behind. May his wonderful spirit surround you and cherished memories of his life with each of you give you strength and happiness as he watches over you each day from that mansion in the sky. God Bless you Doughty family.
