Phil Taylor Obituary
The cause of death was not released.
"My dear friend and brother passed away last night," Clarke wrote on his Facebook page. "He had been ill for some time but that does not make it any easier when the time finally comes. I have known Phil since he was 21 and he was one hell of a character. Fortunately we made some fantastic music together and I have many many fond memories of our time together. Rest in Peace, Phil!"
Although he officially left Motorhead decades ago, Taylor linked up with the band's current lineup to perform the song "Ace of Spades" in Birmingham, England, about a year ago at the National Indoor Arena.
Taylor played on most of the pioneering British heavy metal band's iconic recordings, drumming with the band from 1975 to 1984 and then again from 1987 to 1992. He replaced Lucas Fox as the band's drummer during the recording of their debut album, "On Parole." He made a final appearance on the band's signature album, "Ace of Spades."
Taylor, was born Sept. 21, 1954, in Hasland, a suburb of Chesterfield, England.

Different things motivate different people. Heavy Rock/Metal has moved me from the moment I first heard it in the early 1970s. When I first heard Taylor, I was blown away by the originality and intuitive playing that Motorhead its unique sound. In addition, good "anything" dosent come from an idle mind. One could see that Phil was an intelligent , beyond comedic personality.

A truly great character who shaped my youth with Motorhead in its original guise.
I miss you already, your passing bought tears to a 49 year old man.
I hope you know what fantastic fun times you gave millions worldwide.

Phil...i know you'll be playing your drums right now in Heaven, with all the other greats who left us over the years.

Still hasn't sunk in, devastated. Phil was an extraordinary drummer, funniest man I knew and a loyal, true friend who was loved by all who knew him. He will be sorely missed, but will never be forgotten, he has left so many memories and I was fortunate enough to have known him for over 40 years.

i was philthy's drum tech on 1988 and 1992 world tour... the guy was amazing and had such a sense of humor. incrdible stories... we were all off our heads! lived a lifetime of fun in those years. RIP phil...
