It is with great sadness that the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences (BIOS) has received news of the passing of former Trustee, Trustee Emeritus, and Life Trustee Mr. Raymond (Ray) Moore.
Ray was a BIOS Trustee for two decades (from 1992 to 2012), a Trustee Emeritus from 2012 to 2016, and a Life Trustee since 2016. The embodiment of dedication and generosity, Ray contributed to all facets of BIOS's mission, advancing the organization's efforts with respect to research, education, technology, and infrastructure. In 1992, he established the Ray Moore Endowment Fund to support BIOS's faculty and their research endeavors, creating a lasting legacy of support and impact that will continue in perpetuity.
Throughout his long affiliation with BIOS, Ray fostered partnerships that bolstered the organization's effectiveness and its reach, connecting BIOS to a wide range of individuals, foundations, corporations, and universities in Bermuda, the U.S., the U.K, and Asia. He utilized his vast network to attract new donors and collaborators to BIOS, and to enhance its Board of Trustees. For over 25 years, Ray remained a steadfast advisor, ardent volunteer and true friend to BIOS, continuously thinking of ways to help the organization advance its mission and its stature both on the island and within the global community.
Ray was the quintessential trustee, keeping BIOS on the top of his priority list not only during the years that he was officially on the board but long after, until just a few months ago, said Bill Curry, President and CEO of BIOS. He worked tirelessly to strengthen BIOS's partnerships worldwide, and bring new supporters to the organization while also giving very generously himself. He was a warm and caring individual with a true zest and thirst for life who was a delight to know. He will be greatly missed.
The staff and Board of trustees of BIOS extend its sincerest condolences to Diana and their family.

John and Bernadette send their sincere condolences from Edinburgh, having known Ray since 1974 in Hong Kong. Fond memories of serious tennis games, followed by even more serious wines!
