ROBERT RANS Obituary

Bulley-Graham-Rawlins Funeral Home announces with deep regret the passing of ROBERT RICHARD "BOBBY" RANS, JR, of 10 Timber Lane, Pembroke, aged 77. He was the son of the late Robert and Alice Rans; the beloved husband for half a century of the late Julia Fox; loving father to Brooks (Kate) and Peter (Leslie), and grandfather to Cody. He is survived by three sisters Gladys, Janet, and Lynn; several nieces and nephews; many cousins, and more friends than anyone would have believed possible on this island. So sorry to see the passing of Bob. Many fond memories of our Christmas gatherings in Vermont, with Julie and Bob and family. And of course Bermuda gatherings from the way back! His wit and devotion to Julie were wonderful. Much love to Peter and Leslie, Cody and Brookes. He was one of a kind.

Bobby brought much laughter into the lives of many. As I recall, we met in the early 1980's at Clive and Lyndy Thatcher's home, where my wife, Lyn, was playing the piano and Bobby was telling Bermuda stories. They were priceless. So was he.

Years later, I had my first boat, a 30-something foot motorboat, about which I knew nothing. Being new to Bermuda and boating, I asked Bobby to give me some "driving" lessons, which he did. We had a monster slip at RBYC, and, one day, after an hour or so lesson, we returned to "dock" the boat. As we approached the dock, I timidly inquired, "Bobby, how fast should I approach the dock." He gazed at me with a broad smile and replied, "Just as fast as you want to hit it," whereupon I put it in reverse! Ah, well. Bobby was a fine instructor, but I was a wanting pupil.

Bobby was also an exceptional money-manager, and I wasn't. So, I enjoyed picking his fertile brain ad nauseum.

Above all, Bobby and his Julie made a wonderful couple, who lovingly regaled and entertained their friends throughout their adult lives. They will live on for all of us who loved them, and we wish their sons, Peter and Brooks, and all their relatives peace with their parents' passings, both in 2024. We raise our glasses high and toast them; we shall never forget Bobby or Julie.

With love,

Lee and Lyn Lovett

Bobbie had a big influence on my life. He hired me into his business and there I found a passion for investment management, that I still have to this day.
He had a love of the outdoors and fishing. I remember the fish mounted on his office walls and his passion for antique maps which I share.
Have not seen him for years now but thought of him often.

My condolences to Bobby's family. He was a classic Bermudian and proud as such - a good guy. "To live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind is not to die."

Dear Brooks, Peter and all of the Rans family, I´m sorry for your loss and I´ll be thinking of you. Nick and I so enjoyed our friendship with Bobby and Julie, and I have fond memories of Bobby´s fall-off-your-chair-funny jokes, always told quietly and with a little smile.

To The Rans Family

Sincerest Condolences to you all in the passing of your father. I worked with Bobby at Meridian. He was a really good person, full of laughs and a great personality. We would always joke because we were both short and he would always say, we´re short but great minds! I enjoyed working with Bobby Rans! May he Rest in Eternal Peace!

Condolences to Bobby's family and friends. I was fortunate to be his neighbor for part of my childhood and he was very generous to me with all of his fishing gear, his pool and taught me a lot of tips and tricks. Great memories and a lot of laughs at High Time with his family, friends and the dogs.

Gladys, Janet, Lynn, Brooks, Peter and family,
It is with great sadness that I heard of the news regarding Bobby this morning. Whilst he was debilitated in recent years he still periodically managed a smile when visited by his friends. He was short in stature but a giant when it came to intelligence, witt, honesty and friendship. One photo is of Bobby and me standing side by side circa 1962 at Warwick Academy, being inspected by the Govenor Sir Julian Gasgoine. The second photo is at Christmas lunch at the RBYC 13th December, 2013.
Rest in peace my friend you will be remembered fondly by each and every person whom you met throughout your life.
