Stanley Harris Obituary

Stanley Neil Harris (1940-2025) A Life of Character, Adventure, and Service

STANLEY NEIL HARRIS, known to most as Neil, or "Seal" to those lucky enough to share a private joke, passed away peacefully on 20th June 2025 after a brief illness. Born in Bermuda in 1940, Neil led an extraordinary life: entrepreneur, world traveller, model, restaurateur, and above all, a devoted father, brother, and friend. He was renowned for his warmth, generosity, and the rare gift of making everyone feel genuinely valued. Neil touched countless lives, always putting others first and showing remarkable strength and kindness at every turn. His loss is deeply felt, but his example and legacy of love, resilience, and positivity will endure.

If you met Neil even once, you would not forget him. There was no artifice; just pure, undiluted Neil - warm, direct, attentive, never judgemental, and always with a glint of mischief that hinted at his quietly rebellious spirit. He had a singular ability to make you feel seen and heard. For all his accomplishments and adventures, it was this human quality -the instinct to listen without judgement and to support without reservation - that remains his most enduring gift.

Neil's life was marked by energy, achievement, creativity, and a relentless curiosity. He was a decorated Colour Sergeant in the Bermuda Regiment and served in the Bermuda Police Reserve. His passions were as diverse as they were impressive: an accomplished boxer, equestrian, pilot, skydiver, talented rugby player with the Renegades, skilled polo player on the Bermuda polo team, acrobatic water-skier at Aqua Vista Ski Club, and a champion of bodybuilding and physical culture long before it was fashionable. He established one of Bermuda's first boxing gyms, mentoring others, and remained impressively fit- still doing pull-ups and jogging well into his eighties.

Just as notable was Neil's love of music and dance. He was a singer and dancer, a keen guitarist, and a true lover of music of all kinds. Whether playing a tune, sharing a song, or leading a dance, he brought people together in joy and celebration. His presence lit up any gathering, and his passion for music was infectious, especially when shared on the dance floor with Patricia, his cherished dance partner and close friend.

His creed was simple: "Stay positive and never give up." He lived the lesson of stoicism, teaching by example that while life is tough, so are you. Neil was as much a quiet philosopher as he was a man of action. Among his favourite sayings - words he truly lived by- were:

"Your worth is what you are and not what you have."
"Let money be your servant and not your God."
"There is never an ill wind that doesn't blow some good."

He believed in the power of character over possessions, saw money as a means rather than an end, and always managed to find the positive, even in adversity.

Neil's greatest pride was his family his beloved sister Barbara Edwards; his three sons Neil, Michael, and David; his daughter-in-law Claudia; his grandson Odin; his nieces Wendy (with her husband Alberto) and Beverly (with her husband Donato); and his great-nieces and nephews Max, Stephanie, and Christopher.

He will be fondly remembered by friends, colleagues, and acquaintances from every corner of the globe, lives he enriched in ways too numerous to mention. Neil's legacy lives on not only in his family, but in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Through every chapter, Neil lived a life both extraordinary and real. He knew hardship, faced it with humility and humour, and believed always in lifting others up. Every day, he was a legend. We will miss him deeply, but we are endlessly grateful for the life, love, and lessons he leaves behind.

Rest in peace, Neil. Thank you for showing us what truly matters.

Neil was my friend. He was an extraordinary human being , with a cheeky sense of humour.
He was what humanity needed more of. Caring and kind. Selfless beyond measure, I will miss our calls, and his winks. lol. I will m8ss his little sayings and his historical knowledge. I am grateful to have been honoured by his presence as he had the Frank honesty, yet this wonderful perspective of life.
My heart is heavy , yet ful.
You will truly be missed.
much love
Betty

Dear Barbara,
I am really sorry that Neil, your only sibling, has passed away. What a wonderful obituary, I had know idea of his talents or what kind of person he was. He has left goodness and kindness behind, and really that is the kind of legacy you want to be remembered for when you leave the world. May Neil R.I.P., he deserves it.
My heartfelt sympathy to his sons, Beverly and Wendy.

Really sorry about Stan. I have not seen him for many years but remember him from our Cub Scout days at the Lyceum, Hamilton Parish, under Captain F.W. Clipper. Stan was older than I am but very decent and kind to his younger and newer Cub members like myself. May he be among the angels. My sincerest sympathies and condolences to his family.
