Tom Cooke Obituary

Tom Cooke

On Tuesday, September 17, in the early morning hours, Mr. TOM COOKE, long-time friend of Bermuda, passed away peacefully at his Newburyport home in Massachusetts after a short illness. He was 78. Tom was an enthusiastic member of The Masterworks Foundation, whose work was acquired by the Foundation for its permanent collection. He was a longtime illustrator at the Children's Television Workshop working with Jim Henson to create Sesame Street and Muppet books. A stroke in 1994 forced him to retire. Tom subsequently turned to his love of acrylic painting inspired by his life in Bermuda and his worldwide travels with family. As an artist, Bermuda was Tom's favorite subject. He had two showings of his work in Bermuda sponsored by Masterworks, in 1996 and 2001. Tom is survived by his wife Onalee, his two sons, Scott and Todd, and grandchildren Cameron, Chistopher, Kaitlyn and Kelsey. In April 2015, family and friends will return with Tom's ashes to his beloved Grape Bay.
