I remember staying with Jonathan, his parents, sister and brother in a caravan at the foot of the Pentland Hills, just outside Edinburgh in around 1950. My sister, Susan and I stayed with the Tod family in a caravan for a couple of weeks while my mother (Jonathon's mother's sister) had a minor operation. I missed his wedding but followed his career in the press and from my mother's updates. Unfortunately I never meet him, but was aware of some of his exploits over the years.

Jonathan was a remarkably kind friend , had many trips on his boat with strawberries and wine and wonderfully relaxed suppers and afternoons tigether. He will be sadly missed.
