Wilson, Nicholas Carne, Nick, former senior servant, died suddenly on holiday in South Africa on 16th October, aged 71, Darling husband of Fiona, much loved brother, uncle and friend.Funeral service on Wednesday 29th November 11:00 am at St Mary's, Liss. It was a privilege to have worked with Nick. An intelligent and thoughtful man. We tried hard to reform the national post 16 education and training programmes. Sadly our ` Action for ` initiatives were ahead of their time and perhaps one day will be proven to be the way ahead.

I was very sorry to see the sad news about Nick Wilson. We worked together in the Department of Employment when I was in Private Office and he was the unflappable expert on industrial relations law I knew I could rely on whenever the Secretary of State asked for advice; I´d say "let me see if Nick Wilson is in", knowing those words in themselves would be calming. Many years later when he was working for the Learning and Skills Council we had a very enjoyable coffee, with me nominally "interviewing" him for some project I was doing - and swapping reminiscences. A sad loss. My condolences.
