Ewins Peter David CB, MSc, DSc (Hon.), FREng, FRAeS Died peacefully on 20 December 2024, age 81.Beloved and devoted husband of Barbara, father of Mark, James and Sarah, and Gramps to nine grand-children.Formerly: Chief Executive of the Meteorological Office; Chief Scientist, MoD; Managing Director (Ops), DRA; Director Nuclear Projects, MoD;Director ARE; Head of Helicopters,RAE; structural research oncarbon-fibre-reinforced plastic, RAE.Funeral and Service of Thanksgiving on Thursday 30 January 2025 at 1pm St Mary the Virgin, The Street, Frensham, Surrey, GU10 3EA.Donations in lieu of flowers to Parkinson's UK.

I was very saddened to learn of the passing of Peter and I extend sincere condolences to his family.
I participated in many meetings of international meteorological organisations with Peter. I always found him to be not only a resolute and articulate presenter of the UK national view but also someone who could see the wider picture and work with others to advance international cooperation in meteorology. In the social events he was always a convivial and humorous companion.
May you rest in peace, Peter.
