Bernie was one of the decent teachers at Wigan Grammar School when I was a pupil in the 1960´s. He only taught me history for 1 year. I knew him better as one of the teachers who accompanied us on school trips for weekends away and once for a week long trip to Stonehenge, Bath and other parts of Wiltshire. I remember him with fond memories.

Fifty years on and I can still picture him in his classroom at WGS

Bernard taught me and many of my friends in the late 1960s and early '70s. He also helped take us on many school trips, including to Italy and to Hadrian's Wall (see picture of us with Bernard and Jack Silcock at the temple of Mithras in June 1970). In later years became a very friendly face around town, especially in the pubs. Great guy!
