Mr J. Taylor
(of Rhodesia)
Former colliery worker, Mr Joseph Taylor has passed away at his home on Royds Crescent following a long illness. He was 84.
Born in Clowne and educated at Shuttlewood School, Mr Taylor initially worked on a farm for six years after leaving school then went to Oxcroft Colliery working on the pit face for three years until its closure. For the next six years or so he was employed at Steetley Colliery before ending his career at Shireoaks where he worked for 20 years.
His love of sport was such that he took pleasure from watching football and had previously run Worksop Town Boys Football Club for approximately five years, watching various sports on television and flying and racing pigeons.
A devoted family man who loved to spend time with his grandchildren he also enjoyed going for drives out in his car and caravanning especially to Mablethorpe and Skegness.
Mr Thorpe is survived by his loving wife Pat and children Janice, Vaughan, Nicola, Shaun and Kerry.
The funeral service, held on 11th April 2013 was conducted by Rev Martyn Alvey at St Luke's Church, Shireoaks and was followed by burial at Shireoaks Cemetery.

Arrangements were by Dolby Funeral Services, Lowtown Street, Worksop.
