Christopher Olley Obituary

OLLEY
Christopher Alfred
30th August 1936 –
1st January 2024

Of Chesterfield (Hunloke Ave., Walton),
previously of Sheffield
(Rollet Close, Manor).

A stoic, loving, caring, proud, strong, fierce, independent, energetic and exceptionally hard working son, husband, father, grandfather and Coldstream Guardsman.
Not to forget pugnacious, belligerent and argumentative.

Yorkshire has lost its mightiest, strongest, gnarliest oak.

Chris passed away on the
1st January at home, 87 years of age.
The house that he and his wife Sheila (passed 2008) built and moved into 56 years ago in 1968. A lifetime joiner Chris started his apprenticeship with Finnegans in 1952 and swung his hammer for 52 straight years with his own business working the length and breadth of the country from Sheffield to London to Exeter to Abergavenny to Belfast to Scotland.

Graftin', readin' 'papers, putting on his Barny Goodman whistle and flute (hanky in top pocket) to go up town, doing the garden, Count Basie, Billy Eckstine, Shirley Bassey, fiddling with his cars, fiddling with Hunlok' Ave, antiques, Bournemouth/Sandbanks, asking Doctors if they had anything in their bag to make him
30 again, dispensing his Worldly wisdom and putting people straight were all favourites of Chris's.

Sharp as a tack and a great
raconteur to the end.
He lived, and died, on his own terms.
He always stood on his own two feet.
"NULLI SECUNDUS"

Chris lives on in his two sons (Paul & Lee) and his three Grandchildren (Violet, Alfred, Miriam).
