I knew Ernest from childhood when his parents had a cake shop in Haydock Street, Bolton.
We were both brought up in that street. He encouraged me to complete higher education.

I remember him in the 80's and 90's when I worked at Dean Clough. Always had a smile and a word for everyone. He will be having a good conversation with Jonathan Silver once again. May he rest in peace.
