Greg Townend Obituary

Townend
Greg (Irish)
of Poppleton, 64, passed away at St Michael's Hospice on 9 May after nearly five years fighting stage IV cancer. Born in Harrogate, he attended Harrogate Grammar School and was a member of the Harrogate rugby first team in the 70's and 80's. He moved to America in the 80's, founding a successful building and property management company there, and changed his surname to Townend in honour of his beloved grandfather.
He returned to Yorkshire in 2012 with his wife Jeanne (Carroll) Townend and sons Grayson, Paul, and Collin. He is predeceased by his mother Pamela (Townend) Irish, and is survived by his sister Denise (Irish) Jagger, brother-in-law Richard Jagger, and nephews Freddie and Giles Jagger, as well as many in-laws, nieces and nephews in America and Germany, and many good friends on both sides of the Atlantic. Per his request, his memorial will be a garden party at the family home. Details from Neil and Sonya Milsted, Funeral Directors Harrogate.
The family wishes to give special thanks to all the amazing healthcare workers, surgeons, oncology specialists, and palliative care professionals involved in Greg's care, allowing him to fight the fight, and maintain a high quality of life, for many more years than could have been hoped. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to
St Michael's Hospice Harrogate,
Cancer Research UK, or a preferred cancer charity.
