Kenneth Abshier Obituary

Kenneth "Kenny" AbshierJune 13, 1956 – October 8, 2025 Kenneth "Kenny" Abshier, 69, of Belleview, Florida, passed away on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at Shands Hospital in Gainesville.Kenny was born on June 13, 1956, in Ocala, Florida, to William Vernon "Buddy" Abshier, Jr. and JoAnn NeSmith Abshier. He spent his life in Belleview, where he was known for his humor, kindness, and love of life. He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Abshier Howard of Belleview, his son, Bryce Abshier, and daughter-in-law Tarah Abshier of Belleview. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Jacob Abshier-Howard, JoAnna Howard, and Ellie Abshier, all of Belleview. Kenny is also survived by his sister, Wanda Abshier Long and brother-in-law, Ellis Long; His nephew, Buddy Long of Stanwood, Washington and his niece, Jodi Long Hightower of Belleview. He is also lovingly remembered by his longtime friend and former wife, Cynthia Proctor Abshier of Belleview. Kenny was preceded in death by his brother, Eugene Abshier, and his sister, Judy Abshier. Kenny retired in 2003. In 2005, he received a life-saving liver transplant - a gift he was endlessly grateful for and one that gave him two more decades with his family. Kenny was a lifelong Florida Gators fan. He loved gardening, "messing with his plants, "collecting rocks from around the world, watching classic TV shows like The Andy Griffith Show, Leave It to Beaver and correctly guessing the prices on old reruns of The Price Is Right. Kenny was known for his phenomenal quick wit and sense of humor which made him unforgettable. His catchphrase, "Rock and Roll," will forever echo in the hearts of those who knew him. Kenny adored spending time with his children, grandchildren, and his loyal companion, Diego, his 15-year-old Chihuahua. He was also the proud "grandparent" to several four-legged family members, both dogs and cats. He set the gold standard for what a father should be - devoted, loving, and always there when we needed him most. His fatherhood was his superpower, and we were lucky enough to be his sidekicks through it all. He truly was the world's best dad - and thank God, he was ours. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you remember Kenny by sending your favorite plant, as he had a lifelong love of gardening and dreamed of owning his own plant nursery. To honor his legacy, please become a registered organ donor - a gift that gave Kenny the chance to live and love longer. Don't take your organs to Heaven - God knows we need them here. Rock and Roll! A Celebration of Life will be held at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services in Belleview, Florida, on Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 2:00–4:00 PM (5946 SE Robinson Road, Belleview, FL 34421).
